The Salty Bones Band is a four-piece combo from the New Bern/Beaufort/ Morehead City/Newport area, specializing in rock and roll with tight harmony vocals - primarily music from the ‘70’s and 80’s, with some newer material thrown in for good measure. They play feel-good songs that you can dance to and sing-along with. Songs that will have you saying, “Wow! I haven’t heard that song in a long time. I LOVE that song!”
Their play list encompasses everything from ABBA to Z.Z. Top, though in full disclosure, they don’t currently play any ABBA or Z.Z. Top. That being said, they do play songs by Bryan Adams and Warren Zevon, so the A to Z reference still applies. You get the gist.
The Salty Bones Band consists of: Josie Mullins (lead and backing vocals, electric guitar and keyboards); Steve Hallee (bass guitar and backing vocals); Gary Wood (drums, percussion, lead and backing vocals) and David Daggett (lead and backing vocals, electric and acoustic guitar). SBB started out as a three-piece outfit consisting of Josie, Steve and Gary, with the idea of being a Peter, Paul and Mary tribute band. After receiving some negative feedback from bar owners, they decided to change course and instituted a nation-wide search for a fourth member, where they found David. His suggestion that they focus on Captain and Tennille material was met with disdain, primarily because they couldn’t decide who would wear the hat! After some discussion, they quickly settled on their current format – good, fun, danceable, rock music.
The Salty Bones Band is available for hire at bars, restaurants, private parties, corporate events and weddings. Please feel free to contact us with questions. All members are clean and pick up after themselves.
Dateline Newport Pig Cooking Festival - Saturday, April 6, 2024
The Salty Bones Band kicked off their Spring and Summer 2024 tour with a raucous, hour-long performance at the Annual Newport Pig Cooking Festival. Other than the arctic temperatures, it was a great way to begin the tour. Despite the temperature, the band and audience had a rollicking good time and discussions are in the works for the 2025 event. Other than the fact that one of the band members lost a piece of their pinkie toe to frostbite, it was all good!
The band opened the day’s festivities with an up-tempo version of Tracy Chapman’s “Give Me One Reason.” They followed up with selections from Johnny Nash, Darius Rucker, the Eagles, Sly and the Family Stone, Linda Ronstadt, Roy Orbison, Jimmy Buffett, Brooks and Dunn, the Bellamy Brothers, REM, Van Morrison and a couple of songs by John Mellencamp (or John Cougar Mellancamp if you prefer.)
The Salty Bones Band would like to extend our appreciation to the festival’s organizing committee for allowing us to perform. We greatly appreciate the opportunity and look forward to playing again next year, hopefully under a little more ideal weather conditions.
