David Daggett – aka, “The Meh One,” David - like Steve - also has Maine roots, being born there and spending a number of summer vacations there. The son of a career naval officer, he globe-trotted the world until the age of 16, with extended stays in Germany, Turkey, Hawaii, Maine, Maryland, Okinawa and finally, back to Maryland at the age of 16. It was during the 9th grade while attending Kubasaki Junior High on Okinawa that the musical bug first hit him. Prior to that time his goal was to play shortstop for the Boston Red Sox. Upon discovering the guitar (and girls), his focus changed to becoming a rock star. Sadly, it was but one unfortunate break that prohibited him from realizing both his early dreams: a total and profound lack of talent in either area.
David’s first band was with three high school friends on Okinawa. They were called Cinnamon Spectrum and played covers of top 40 hits from the mid to late 60’s. Their claim to fame was coming in second in a five-band battle of the bands. David was the lead singer and was the originator of the “air guitar.” He held a guitar but faked playing it as there were two other guitar players in the band that were better than he. All four members of Cinnamon Spectrum are still friends to this day and they constantly remind him that had he actually played a bass, the band might have finished first.
Upon moving back to Maryland in the early 70’s, David hooked back up with some former friends and played guitar and did some singing in the high school band Octavious Green and the Love Machine. They made the rounds of the local summer recreation centers and played at the now defunct Kirkland Hall College. While no one in the band was actually named Octavious Green, the lads thought it was a cool name. To this day, whenever awaiting a table at a restaurant, David provides the name “Octavious Green” to the hostess.
After high school, David matriculated to the University of Maryland for his undergraduate degree and the University of Baltimore for his law degree. He has worked as a prosecutor for the past 35 years.
Prior to moving to Beaufort, David played in a number of Frederick, Maryland area bands including, Antietam, The Janglebachs, the acoustic duo David and David (not that David and David!) and finally, for the past dozen years, Boomtown. Boomtown is still technically together, with gigs still on the books. One of Boomtown’s other members goes all the way back to the aforementioned Octavious Green and the Love Machine.
David’s musical influences include The Beatles, Rick Nelson, Kinks, Simon and Garfunkel, Eagles, America, Dan Fogelberg, Jackson Browne, James Taylor, Steely Dan, Poco, Karla Bonoff, Linda Ronstadt, REM, Del Amitri, the Brandos, Guster and currently, Dawes. He plays many different guitars, including a PRS, Fender Stratocaster and Telecaster, Rickenbacker 12 string, a number of home-made Les Paul – style electric guitars and a Takamine acoustic guitar. He uses Line 6 and Peavey amps.
